"...it all goes Ka-Blooey..."
Ken has been writing his whole life. Even before he was old enough to write, he used to use pictures to tell tales and was the go-to-guy for campfire stories.
When he came second in the 'Rod Serling Memorial Writing Contest' in 1992, he decided to start taking writing a little more seriously.
Since he made that decision he has racked up about two hundred short stories, a novella and of course, 'Of A Feather'.
Socrates has a gift, a power even he doesn't fully understand.
But old Gert, who feeds the pigeons in Gustav's Park, understands. Pretty Jamie, who works at the Bird Emporium, understands. And the old Indian chief who wears a strange, two-sided bird mask, he understands too.
As does the ancient, angry spirit called the Thunderbird and about a million of Wellington County's feathered creatures...
They know what Socrates Singer really is.
And they know what he can do...

Of A Feather
OF A FEATHER tells the story of seventeen year old Socrates Singer. As a child he touched a sacred indian tribal mask. This, he later discovers, has given him power over all kinds of birds. There are several sub plots involving bullies and a potential girlfriend for Socrates, but it all goes Ka-Blooey. As a result, Socrates accidentally unleashes this power he has.
Ken has owned a parrot for 30 years and applied his knowledge of domestic birds to his novel. "I even added a segment in which Socrates' pet parrot KiKi learns the song "Baby Love;" it's a song my parrot learned (on his own) because his name is Baby. Tacky, but true."

"I was so tense at the end I gave myself neck ache!" - V. Kirkpatrick
"...this book will keep you on the edge of the seat, right up to it's pitch perfect ending." - J. McCleod
"It made Hitchcock's "The Birds" look like a Tweety and Sylvester cartoon." - A Essrig
"I will go dry my tears now." - D Jones

General Squawks
"I'd like to say that outside of writing I run with the bulls in Pamplona. I'd like to say it, but it's not true."
Ken is a big fan of the beach and rarely misses a day during the summer. He enjoys biking and cycles about 15 miles, several times a week on the boardwalk at the Jersey shore. This gives him plenty of opportunity for people watching and story planning.
He's a massive film fan and used to teach Film Study, so if you have any film trivia questions, he's your go-to-guy. He's a big Hitchcock fan and lists 'The Birds' as an influence from 'Of A Feather' though his novel is very, very different. As well as Hitchcock, he enjoys the work of Tarentino, James Cameron and Woody Allen, to name a few.
Ken is often compared to Stephen King in reviews of his novel, which is a massive compliment as he's always been a fan. He is a fan of Dave Barry too. "If a writer can make me laugh out loud, he has my undying respect--as long as that's the reaction he intends to get!"
"I can offer the advice to other writers that was given to me by my father. Go ahead and write; just have something to fall back on other than your ass. It's not going to make you rich, most likely, but writing is cheaper than therapy. (And my own addition to that : if you're good at it, it's fun too.)"
Under The Feather
Ken Goldman believes that the publisher for 'Of A Feather', Graeme Reynolds (Horrific Tales Publications) has gone above and beyond the requirements of any publisher he's worked with before. The beta readers/copy editors, Lisa Jenkins and Simon Marshall-Jones, helped tighten the book's final drafts, and he is in no doubt that Stu Smith's cover art was responsible for many of the novels sales. Horrific Tales' other novels (Michael Bray's 'Whisper' and now the sequel, 'Echoes') and Graeme's own 'High Moor' novels are fantastic company for FEATHER to share, and he is proud to be a part of that team.
Ken has got over 30 short stories due to be released in the coming months through publishing houses such as 'Horrified Press', so make sure you keep an eye on his Amazon page.
I've enjoyed learning a bit about Ken, his writing and his interests and I hope you have too. I have included some links below and I hope that you use them to keep in contact with him. I'll be posting my own review of 'Of A Feather' very soon - I'll keep you updated.
As always, thanks for reading. If you have any comments, please type away :-)
